Microsoft held its annual developer conference 'Microsoft Build 2025' in Seattle from May 19 to 22, 2025. The event showcased Microsoft's future vision through over 50 key announcements across various areas, including AI agents, cloud integration, and developer tools.

AI Agents and the Open Agentic Web

Satya Nadella, the CEO, presented a vision for an "Open Agentic Web" that aims for AI agents to automatically perform users' tasks and collaborate within an ecosystem. Under this vision, tools like GitHub Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and Azure AI Agents are expected to be utilized across various platforms. In particular, GitHub Copilot is evolving from a simple code assistance tool into a "coding agent" that plays the role of a developer's partner in adding features, fixing bugs, extending tests, and documenting. This agent supports complex tasks by accessing external data and tools through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Collaboration with xAI: Grok model deployed on Azure

Through collaboration with xAI, founded by Elon Musk, the Grok 3 and Grok 3 Mini models have been integrated into the Azure AI Foundry platform. This allows developers to gain the flexibility to choose from various AI models and utilize the one that best suits their needs.

NLWeb project for web development

Microsoft has announced an open framework called 'NLWeb' that helps easily integrate natural language interfaces into websites. With this framework, developers can add interactive AI features to their websites with minimal code, significantly lowering the entry barrier for implementing web interfaces.

On-device AI features of Edge browser

The Edge browser has introduced on-device AI capabilities that allow AI models to run directly on the user's device. This enables tasks such as text generation, summarization, and editing, with translation features expected to be added in the future. Developers can now utilize the new API to implement more efficient and personalized AI functionalities.

Enhancement of Windows Developer Tools

The tools for Windows developers have been significantly enhanced. Notably, a command-line based lightweight text editor called 'Edit on Windows' has been introduced, providing a flexible development environment that allows direct file editing even in terminal environments.

Event Issue: Internal Protest Occurred

On the first day of the event, a Microsoft employee protested against the company's collaboration with the Israeli government. This demonstration highlights internal members' concerns regarding the ethical responsibilities of tech companies and global partnerships, suggesting a potential for broader discussions on the matter in the future.
