Memorial Ceremony Main Contents

The 70th Memorial Day Ceremony will take place on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 10 AM at the National Seoul Cemetery. The main agenda includes a screening of the video on the national flag raising across national cemeteries, a nationwide moment of silence for remembrance, an introduction of the tributes narrated by actors Kim Gapsu and Go Dusim, the reading of the pledge to the flag by Sergeant Choi Moongil from the Marine Corps Training Unit, the reading of a letter by Song Jaesook, who found her father through remains excavation, and a performance of "The Face I Want to See" by soprano Lee Hae-won. Additionally, certificates of merit will be awarded to four individuals, including Sergeant Kim Heetae, in the name of the President, followed by a choir performance of "When the World Calls Your Name" and the singing of "Song of Remembrance."

The Hanseong Baekje Museum will present an outdoor performance that combines Taekwondo martial arts and traditional Korean music. The Traditional Crafts Hall at Namsangol Hanok Village will hold an exhibition titled '80th Anniversary of Liberation - Our Taegeukgi.'

Events in Gyeonggi Province

In Gyeonggi Province, various events are prepared to commemorate the 70th Memorial Day. At the Gyeonggi Arts Center, the music-performative gala concert 'Tribute' will take place, featuring major pieces from the musicals 'Hero' and 'Lee Soon-shin', as well as key arias from the opera 'Turandot'. At the Namyangju Silhak Museum, traditional performances such as the North Cheong Lion Dance, Binari (a traditional ritual song), and tightrope walking will be showcased.

National Major Events

Various festivals will be held across the country on June 6, 2025. In Iksan, the 'Modern History Cultural Festival' will take place, featuring programs and concerts that allow attendees to experience history from the 1910s to the liberation period. At the Gwangju Baekbeom Memorial Hall, various hands-on events will be conducted, including experiencing the clothing of independence activists and creating independence newspapers. On Jajwoldo Island, there will be a running event along a 6.6km coastal route and marine cleanup activities.

Notice for Half-Staff Flag on Memorial Day

On Friday, June 6, 2025, the national flag will be raised. The raising time is from 7 AM to 6 PM. If there is a flagpole, the national flag should be raised to one-third of the height of the flagpole. If there is no flagpole, it should be affixed to a wall or window at a lower position.
